Roller Shutter Installation in Portsmouth

Large Scale Roller Shutter Installation in Portsmouth

Ace Door Systems recently completed the installation of a large industrial roller shutter measuring 10.2 metres wide by 6 metres high at a commercial site in Portsmouth. Due to the scale of the opening and its exposure to coastal weather conditions, the project required a robust, high performance solution capable of delivering reliable operation and exceptional strength in demanding environments.

To ensure smooth and controlled movement of the shutter, the system was supplied with a powerful 2000 Nm direct drive motor, providing the torque and durability required for high frequency use on a shutter of this size. The door curtain was manufactured from heavy duty 18-gauge steel for maximum rigidity, strength and operational longevity.

A specialist punched curtain profile was incorporated to allow controlled wind penetration, reducing pressure build up and significantly lowering the risk of the shutter being forced outward or damaged during extreme weather. This design consideration is essential for large doors positioned in exposed locations, where standard solid curtain profiles can be vulnerable to wind load stress.

The shutter was fully wind-locked using reinforced 100 mm steel windlock guides, ensuring secure engagement along the full height of the door and providing exceptional resistance against lateral force. Together, these elements deliver a high security, weather resistant system capable of withstanding severe wind conditions while maintaining smooth operational performance.

The project was completed within the agreed schedule, with all safety protocols, commissioning and handover documentation provided on completion.
