Industrial Roller Shutter Install Blackpool

Case Study: Insulated Roller Shutter Installation – Blackpool

Ace Door Systems recently completed an insulated aluminium roller shutter installation for a retail customer in Blackpool who required a fast and cost-effective replacement for a failing external shutter. The existing steel shutter had suffered significant corrosion as a result of weather exposure and coastal salt air, leading to operational failure and increasing security vulnerability. Replacing the system was essential to maintaining secure access and protecting stock, staff and the premises.

Project Challenge

The customer required a replacement shutter that could be fitted with minimal disruption to trading and without the need to remove existing signage, electrical services or internal shop fittings. Removing or relocating these elements would have substantially increased costs and extended project time, leading to unnecessary downtime. The requirement was therefore for a smart retrofit solution that could integrate with the store’s existing façade.

In addition, the customer wanted improved insulation performance to support better internal temperature control and reduce energy loss through the entrance, particularly during colder months.

Our Solution

After a full site survey and consultation, Ace Door Systems specified an insulated aluminium roller shutter system designed to be retrofitted beneath the existing shutter housing and signage, eliminating the need for removal or alteration of store branding or canopy structures. This approach dramatically reduced cost, installation time and disruption to the retail environment.

Our engineering team carried out precise measurements to ensure that the new shutter profile could be fitted efficiently within the restricted available clearance. The shutter was manufactured to specification at our facility, enabling a rapid turnaround and ensuring a perfect fit.

The insulated curtain profile provides improved thermal performance compared to the original steel shutter, helping reduce heat transfer, control internal temperatures and support overall building efficiency.

Installation Process

Installation was scheduled outside peak trading hours to minimise impact on customers and staff. All work zones were safely cordoned and planned to maintain access throughout.

The old shutter was safely disconnected and left in place structurally, enabling the new aluminium system to be installed directly beneath it without disturbing surrounding materials. Our engineers fitted the new shutter, tested its operation, commissioned the control system and provided staff training on safe operation.

The full installation was completed efficiently within a single visit, with no interruption to trading and no need for additional building works.

Results and Client Benefits

• Significant cost savings: Retrofit installation avoided expensive removal of signage and fittings, saving the customer several thousand pounds.
• Improved security: The new shutter provides enhanced resistance to forced entry, increasing protection of stock and staff.
• Better insulation performance: The insulated curtain helps reduce heat loss and energy consumption.
• Minimal disruption: The store remained fully operational throughout with no downtime.
• Long-term durability: Aluminium construction offers excellent resistance to corrosion in coastal environments.
• Fast turnaround: Survey, manufacture and installation were completed within an agreed short timescale.

Conclusion

This project demonstrates Ace Door Systems’ ability to deliver practical, cost-effective and innovative solutions tailored to real-world operational constraints. Our technical approach enabled a complex replacement to be achieved quickly and with minimal disruption, while significantly improving performance and security.
