Project Works: Draft Control and Pest Prevention Lobby Installation – Leeds

Ace Door Systems recently completed a specialist installation project for a commercial facility in Leeds requiring improved environmental control and protection against pest ingress. The client identified ongoing issues caused by uncontrolled air movement and external contamination entering the building through an unprotected access point. To resolve this, Ace was commissioned to design and install a draft lobby arrangement incorporating both external fire escape doors and internal batter-through impact doors.

The project involved the installation of new steel fire escape doors on the external elevation of the building to provide secure exit capability and meet relevant emergency egress and fire safety regulations. These doors were selected for durability, weather resistance and compliance with required certification standards. Internally, batter-through doors were installed to create a controlled lobby that reduces air transfer between zones, helping maintain stable indoor conditions and prevent pests gaining access to the operational areas.

The batter-through doors enable staff and equipment to pass through efficiently without the need for manual handling, making them ideal for high-traffic environments such as food production facilities, storage warehouses and logistics operations. Their robust construction ensures excellent resistance to impact from trolleys, pallet trucks or handling equipment while maintaining an effective physical barrier.

To support structural integration, the doors were fitted into custom fabricated steel frames produced in-house by the Ace engineering team. This allowed precise alignment within an existing irregular opening and avoided the need for additional building work, saving time and cost for the client.

The installation was carried out efficiently and with minimal disruption to ongoing site operations. Following commissioning, the client reported immediate improvements in the control of air flow, reduction in drafts and enhanced protection against contamination and pest ingress.
